Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Why so few truly outstanding, other worldy Shakedowns?

Depends on definition of outstanding and otherworldly, Liam, but I would say there are many Shakedowns that fit the bill.

As pointed out already 10-25-79 is a mindblower...

and I would add two others--10/31/79 and my own personal favorite: 1-10-79, which I consider otherworldly b/c of the subtle but truly amazing snaky guitar lines Garcia plays "underneath" everyone else during the instrumental jam section prior to the reprise coda...if you "isolate" his guitar in your ears and listen to what he's doing--he NEVER STOPS THE MUSICAL TRAIN of this particular is just incredible, and one of the many reasons Jerry still inspires to this day.

p.s. People tell me the Shake from Merriweather 1985 is the greatest ever, but like your take on 12-31-84, it doesn't appeal to me as it does many others.
